The Battle of Fredericksburg occurred December 11-15, 1862. While there will be no live park events commemorating the Battle of Fredericksburg, park grounds remain open and available as spaces of reflection and recreation.

Anniversary programming, including activities, articles, and resources about the Battle of Fredericksburg are accessible through the park website, nps.gov/frsp/planyourvisit/remembering-the-battle-of-fredericksburg.htm, and through the park’s social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Video programs will touch on themes including the perspectives of soldiers, civilians, and enslaved populations during the battle. Ranger talks will premiere on December 11 and 12, and a recording of our annual tour, “In the Footsteps of the Irish Brigade” will premiere on December 13. Follow #Fredericksburg158th on social media to keep up with anniversary content.

Visitors who come to the park are encouraged to follow CDC and local guidance, including travelling in small groups, practicing social distancing, and wearing masks. Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania NMP is dedicated to the safety of our visitors and staff.

About the park. Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Battlefields Memorial National Military Park (NMP) includes the sites of four major battles spanning eighteen crucial months of the Civil War. The battles caused more than 100,000 casualties. The constant presence of armies left Fredericksburg and the surrounding agricultural landscape devastated and ended bondage for thousands of enslaved people in the region. The park is the second largest military park in the world. Learn more at www.nps.gov/frsp, and on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
