2018 Fishing Permits Extended for Duration of Federal Government Shutdown

Staten Island, N.Y. - Gateway National Recreation Area will extend the 2018 fishing permits until the new 2019 permits are issued. Normally, fishing permits are good for one year at locations within Gateway: Staten Island Unit; Jamaica Bay Unit; and Sandy Hook, N.J., Unit.

The annual sale of fishing permits has historically been held on Feb. 1. Due to the federal government shutdown, the annual sale will be held at a later date.

During the federal government shutdown, outdoor areas of the park will remain accessible. Most facilities will remain closed, including visitor centers.

For updates on the shutdown, please visit www.doi.gov/shutdown.
