The official use of dogs for military purpose didnt happen until world war two, but they appear in photos much earlier. This leads us to question if people were willing to face punishment just to let their dog stay, or if the dog didn't care taht they weren't allowed to stay? Either way they are very photogenic and its always fun to find them in pictures.
