Grand Canyon, Ariz. - The National Park Service today released the name of the young man that died after a fall from the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The man has been identified as 20 year-old Jeffrey Klingsick from Derby, Kansas. At approximately 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, the park received a report of a man over the edge at Pipe Creek Vista, located about one mile west of the junction of Desert View Drive and South Entrance Road. Upon arriving at the scene, witnesses reported that they had seen a man fall over the edge. Unable to see anything from the rim, rangers rappelled over the edge and began finding evidence of a fall. Rangers located a deceased male approximately 600 feet below the rim. Using a mechanical advantage system, the body was lifted up to the rim by rope. It was then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner, who later positively identified the man as Jeffrey Klingsick. -NPS- |
