GULF BREEZE, FL. – Gulf Islands National Seashore announces that the Okaloosa Area in Florida will close on Tuesday, October 27, at 5:00 pm ahead of the approaching storm. The anticipated intense winds, rough seas, and heavy rain will impact this area and are expected to cause flooding of roads and coastal areas. Current predications indicate that the park may be affected by the storm. The Fort Pickens, Highway 399/ J. Earle Bowden Way, and Opal Beach Areas remain closed due to damage from Hurricane Sally. The Perdido Key/ Johnson Beach Area closed yesterday at 5:00 pm.

These Florida areas will remain closed until further notice. "Safety of our visitors and our staff are our number one priority during extreme weather events, and in this case the most appropriate action is to close these areas.” The Naval Live Oaks mainland day use area of the seashore in Florida will remain open.

The Fort Barrancas area remains closed due to closures of the NAS Pensacola.

Park staff will assess conditions once the weather passes and throughout the next few days and announce updates as appropriate.
