Naturalization Ceremony at George Washington Carver National Monument

Diamond, Missouri-On November 10th starting at 11:30am, George Washington Carver National Monument, in partnership with the US District Court and the USCIS, will host a naturalization ceremony. An estimated 50 applicants will be sworn in as citizens. This event’s applicants represent approximately 30 countries, including Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Mexico, Sweden, and Vietnam. The event will be held outdoors with COVID safety protocols and will be live streamed for families who cannot attend.  

The Honorable M. Douglas Harpool will preside over the ceremony. Members of Joplin High School’s ROTC will serve as the ceremony’s Color Guard. Guest speakers will include Jim Heaney, Park Superintendent; Udayan Apte, Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center; Attorney Tom O’Neal with the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association; Kim Mailes, President of the Carver Birthplace Association; and representatives from the offices of Senator Roy Blunt, Senator Josh Hawley, and Congressman Billy Long. 

There will be a short reception for the new citizens and their guests, hosted by the Carver Birthplace Association, immediately following the ceremony.

Members of the press may enter with equipment between 10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

Administered by the National Park Service, an agency of the Department of the Interior, George Washington Carver National Monument preserves the birthplace and childhood home of George Washington Carver, scientist, educator, and humanitarian.
