Notice of Flight Operations for February 2022

HAWAII NATIONAL PARK, Hawaiʻi – Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park announces flight operations for February 2022:

February 1 between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. for endangered plant recovery in Kahuku between 3,500- and 7,500-ft. elevation.

February 1 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for fountain grass control and mapping from Kamoʻoaliʻi to Keauhou, sea level to 3500-ft. elevation.

February 2 between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. for crew support sling loads in ʻŌlaʻa Tract between 3,500- and 4,500-ft. elevation.

February 10 between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. for vegetation monitoring support in ʻŌlaʻa Tract between 3,500- and 4,500-ft. elevation. 

February 22 between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for crew support sling loads between Mauna Ulu and Escape Road between 3,000- and 4,000-ft. elevation.

In addition, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory may conduct flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.
The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather. 

Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
