HAWAII NATIONAL PARK, Hawaiʻi – Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park announces flight operations for April 2025:
April 1 and 17 between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. for external sling loads of material to the Keauhou-Kaʻū boundary adjacent to Volcano Winery for a fence replacement project between 4,000- and 4,200-ft. elevation.
NEW: April 7 and 11 between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. for external sling loads of tools and camping gear for trail maintenance and water tank replacement project in the 126- and 2,300-ft. elevation between Kaʻaha shelter and the end of Hilina Pali road.
April 3 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. for fountain grass control at sea level to 3,500-ft. elevation between the western park boundary and Keauhou.
April 7 and 11 between 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for crew transport and external sling loads of material to Mauna Loa for a fence retrofit project between 8,000- and 9,500-ft. elevation.
April 14 between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for ungulate survey work in the Kahuku Unit between 2,000- and 6,000-ft. elevation.
NEW: April 21 and 25 between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. for external sling loads of tools and camping gear for trail maintenance and water tank replacement project from the 70- and 2,450-ft. elevation between Keauhou shelter and ‘Āinahou.
USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory may conduct additional flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.
The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
