On Sunday, May 19, Homestead National Monument of America Artist-in-Residence Dr. Jeffrey Lockwood will hold an interactive writing workshop at 2 p.m. in the Homestead National Monument of America Education Center. The workshop is offered free of charge and is open to all ages. During this interactive workshop, Dr. Lockwood will take visitors through a variety of short creative writing exercises.Dr. Lockwood will be in residence at Homestead National Monument of America from May 14 through May 27. During his stay at the monument, Dr. Lockwood will work on his writing out on the grounds of the monument and in the buildings. Visitors are welcome to come and visit with him during his residency.
Currently, Dr. Lockwood lives in Laramie, Wyoming where he is a Professor of Natural Sciences and Humanities at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Lockwood holds a PhD in entomology and began his career as an insect ecologist for the University of Wyoming. Over time, he transitioned from the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources to a split appointment between the Department of Visual & Literary Arts, where he focuses on creative nonfiction in the realm of nature and environmental writing, and the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies, where he focuses on environmental ethics and aesthetics.
Dr. Lockwood has previously served as an Artist-in-Residence at Crater Lake National Park, Denali National Park, Isle Royale National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, and Cape Cod National Seashore.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska and 45 miles south of Lincoln. Current hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Beginning on May 27, 2019 the summer hours begin which are 8:30-5:00 daily.
