Let the hedge apple games begin! Join park rangers and volunteers at Homestead National Monument of America onSunday, October 4, 2015 from 2-4 p.m.to have fun with hedge apples at the Hedge Apple Festival! This fun event will begin with hedge apple crafts and contest at 2 p.m.at the Heritage Center. See who creates the most exciting and unique creation using the provided hedge apples and craft supplies! After that, kids and visitors of all ages can join in on the Homestead Hedge Apple "Olympics," a series of fun activities outside near the Palmer-Epard Cabin. Games will include a hedge apple on a spoon race, hedge apple bucket toss, and more! This event is free and offers exciting fun for the whole family! "This event highlights the monument's Osage orange hedgerow which is a key piece of the historic landscape. It also gives us all a chance to be creative and have some fun!" said Superintendent Mark Engler. Remember, Homestead National Monument of America has an exciting schedule of events planned for 2015. Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, or 45 miles south of Lincoln, Nebraska.
