Indiana Dunes National Park is accepting applications for the National Park Service Youth Conservation Corps (YCC). There will be 5 positions available in the park this summer. Employment will last ten weeks, beginning June 2, 2024, and ending on August 10, 2024. The starting wage for a basic enrollee is $7.25 per hour for a 40-hour work week. Selectees are involved in a special employment program for students age 15-18. They work 40-hour weeks for 8-10 weeks of the summer and are paid minimum wage. Maintenance hire four YCC's to perform supervised work with custodial. Interpretation will hire one YCC. Applications are accepted to the end of April. Selections are based upon a random drawing held in May that is open to the public. The ProgramThe Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a well-balanced work-learn-earn program that develops an understanding and appreciation in participating youth of the Nation's environment and heritage. Administered by the National Park Service, the program offers gainful summer employment to youth in a healthful outdoor atmosphere. Projects may include building trails, maintaining fences, cleaning up beaches, painting and staining park buildings. Eligibility RequirementsTo be eligible, participants must be 15 years old before June 2, 2024 but not turn 19 years old before August 10, 2024, the ending date of the program. Young men and women, who are permanent residents of the United States, are eligible for employment without regard to social, economic, racial, or ethnic backgrounds. Handicapped youth who can effectively participate in most YCC activities are eligible. Youth must: have no history of serious criminal or other anti-social behavior that might endanger their safety or that of others; have or be able to obtain a work permit; and have a copy of their Social Security card.
