Under the authority of 36 CFR 1.5(a), the Superintendent will temporarily close two locations at Indiana Dunes National Park so work projects can be completed safely.
On March 23rd, the entire Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk site will be closed all day so large trucks and equipment can safely deliver and install boulders needed to shore up the accessible ramp west of the pavilion. There are several other nearby national park beaches that can be used while Portage Lakefront is closed, including West Beach located just north of the intersection of US Highway 12 and County Line Road in Portage.
There will be no access to the Cowles Bog north parking lot on March 25th so contractors can safely remove a hazardous tree. The Cowles Bog Trail will still be accessible from the south lot located just north of the intersection of US Highway 12 and Mineral Springs Road.
