Isle Royale Reflection

"When I think of my time on Isle Royale, I think of healing and of gratitude.

Physically and emotionally, I was exhausted when I arrived. I had a fever two days before I left home. My new career had begun to interfere with my art. I had recently started what has turned out to be the most important relationship of my life. Beyond being a beautiful place to explore, beyond offering hours of hiking and paddling, beyond being built of all of the landscapes I love to photograph, my time to work at Isle Royale offered me space to heal, reflect and create.

My gratitude goes to the people who thought to preserve Isle Royale for the future, to the families who welcomed me and told me their histories of the island, to the rangers who kept me safe and comfortable, and to everyone who has let me share my images and stories of the time I spent there."
