The National Park Service staff of James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor is pleased to announce a special event with author C.W. Goodyear at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Goodyear is the author of the book President Garfield: From Radical to Unifier, the first new birth-to-death biography of James A. Garfield in over forty years. Simon and Schuster published the book last July.

The author’s program on June 16 is free of charge; copies of the book will be available for purchase that day in the Eastern National bookstore at James A. Garfield National Historic Site.

“We’re very happy to welcome C.W. Goodyear here for the second time,” said Site Manager Todd Arrington. “His book has done much to open people’s eyes to the lost potential of James Garfield’s presidency but also the impressive life Garfield lived before becoming president. We invite everyone to come hear what Mr. Goodyear has to say about President Garfield and get their book signed.”

Goodyear’s visit is planned in partnership with The Garfield Trail of Ohio, a non-profit entity that assists and advocates for the four major James Garfield-related sites in northeast Ohio.
