The Pinto Mountains Zone is a rugged zone in the central part of the park. Points of interest include Pinto Mountain and the sand dunes along its southern base. This zone is among the warmer and lower elevation zones in the park. There are no roads or hiking trails. Backpackers entering this area should be well versed in off-trail travel and navigation. Camping is not allowed near any mining or historical sites.

Trails: There are no maintained trails in this zone.

Bordering Zones: The Hexie Mountains and the East Zone. North of this zone is land managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Closest Backcountry Trailheads to Enter/Exit: Turkey Flats (1,791') and Porcupine Wash (2450’)
