SEWARD, Alaska The National Park Service (NPS) proposes an Alaska Region Coastal Park Units Fire Management Plan (FMP) Environmental Assessment for the following park units:  Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve (ANIA), Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve (GLBA), Kenai Fjords National Park (KEFJ), Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park (KLGO), which includes the Chilkoot National Historic Trail, and Sitka National Historical Park (SITK).

NPS Director's Order #18 Wildland Fire Management, requires every NPS unit with burnable vegetation to implement an approved FMP (NPS 2008). An approved FMP would reduce the risk of wildfire to human communities, provide park managers direction and guidance to assist when making decisions related to wildland fire activities, and maintain or restore the integrity of park ecosystems. Furthermore, the purpose of this project follows NPS guidance, recognizing that the fuels management program has become increasingly important for reducing the risk of severe wildfire to human communities and for maintaining or improving the integrity of park ecosystems.
