KENNESAW, Ga., June 10, 2024 — The National Park Service is seeking public input on the timing, days of use, and seasonality of cycling on Kennesaw Mountain Drive as the park implements an expanded shuttle system. A virtual public meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 6:00PM EDT regarding the proposed changes to bicycle use on Kennesaw Mountain Drive.

In 2017, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park proposed the use of parking fees and a daily shuttle system to transport visitors on Kennesaw Mountain Drive, between the Visitor Center and the summit of Big Kennesaw Mountain, to eliminate single passenger vehicle use, and decrease conflicts between vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

In preparation for expanding the shuttle system, the park is considering the timing of bicycle use on the road when the shuttle is not in operation and is preparing to better delineate uses on the road. The proposed redesigned road lanes would include a 10-foot shared bus/bike lane on the inside curve with 2-way traffic and a 10-foot pedestrian lane on the outside curve. New pavement markers would be painted along the 1.2 miles of road to delineate separation between pedestrian and bike/bus lanes. In addition, a new shuttle stop would be constructed at the base of Kennesaw Mountain Drive next to the Visitor Center.
