Youth Art Program

Join a Park Ranger and local art instructor during Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park's 160th Anniversary Weekend for our BRAND NEW youth art program!

Participants will spend time learning about the documentation of Civil War Battlefields both during and after the Civil War. There will be a special emphasis on the different mediums used by artists at the time and developing an understanding of how art can be used as a way to appreciate, document, and memorialize important landscapes. A Park Ranger will be joined by local artist Jill Hooley to discuss the practice of plein air painting -- a style of art popular with the Impressionists in the years following the Civil War. Afterwards, children will work with Jill Hooley to create their own watercolor masterpieces right here on our battlefield!
 
Two program sessions will be held on Saturday, June 29th, 2024. Program times and ages are as follows:

9:00am - Noon: Ages 6 years - 9 years
1:00pm - 4:00pm: Ages 10 years - 12 years


Things to Know:
  • The maximum number of participants per session is 20.
  • Participants must be aged 6 - 12. No exceptions.
  • The program is completely FREE -- no park entrance fee is required.
  • The registration form closes on Sunday, June 16th at 11:59pm.
  • Participants for each program session will be selected at random.
  • Participants will be notified of their selection by Wednesday, June 19th and will be given further information at that time. If your child is chosen, please make every effort possible to get your child there due to the program having a limitation on the number of participants.

Jill Hooley

MEET THE TEACHER:

Jill Hooley is a local artist and art instructor in Marietta, Georgia. She received her B.F.A. from Alfred University in Almond, New York and received her M.A. from Piedmont College, Demorest, Georgia. Jill recently retired from teaching art at Marietta High School and is currently the 2D instructor at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art.
