Description

Eleanor Roosevelt with her two youngest sons, John (age 1) and Franklin, Jr (age 2). John Aspinwall Roosevelt (1916-1981), the sixth child of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt, was a businessman, philanthropist, and, unlike his siblings, a Republican. Also unlike his brothers, John did not have political aspirations. He received his education at Groton and Harvard, and on June 18, 1938, married Anne Lindsay Clark. Together, they had four children. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr (1914-1988) was the fifth child of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and was known by the family as "Brother" or "Brud,". FDR Jr.’s interest in politics resulted in a close relationship with his father. After attending Groton and Harvard, he studied law at the University of Virginia. He joined his father’s 1940 reelection campaign, coordinating youth activities for the Democratic National Committee. Franklin was married five times and had five children. He died of cancer in 1988.
