JEROME, Ida.— The National Park Service is opening up the newest visitor center in the nation at Minidoka National Historic Site on February 22, 2020 from 1:00-5:00pm. Visitors are invited to join the public grand opening of the newly renovated visitor center. . Historically, the visitor center was warehouse # 5 and served as the automotive repair shop. The Minidoka National Historic Site Visitor Center is located at 1428 Hunt Road, Jerome, Idaho.The space includes a theater screening the new park film; two brand new exhibits on the history of the Japanese American incarceration experience at Minidoka and one dedicated to the first generation pioneers called “The Issei: A Legacy of Courage” installed by the Friends of Minidoka; and a bookstore.
The Visitor Center’s regular winter hours, beginning 2/23/2020, will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10:00am - 5:00pm.
