Closed Circuit Television Operation and Use

The National Park Service (NPS) will operate Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in a manner to facilitate legitimate law enforcement and public safety objectives. CCTV cameras will be operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at designated national icon parks (Mount Rushmore). Automated facial recognition technology will not be used, unless first reviewed and approved by the appropriate government officials, including the office of the Field Solicitor.

No person will be targeted or monitored merely because of race, religion, gender, sex, disability, national origin, and political affiliation or views.

CCTV will not target or focus on the faces of persons engaging in first amendment demonstration activity unless there is a reasonable indication of a threat to public safety or that they are engaging in criminal activity.

Disclosure and use of any information obtained will be limited to appropriate law enforcement and public safety purposes.
