This photograph of Carl Sandburg at age 82 was taken at Columbia Records Recording Studio in Los Angeles, CA, in December 1960. Photo-journalist Leigh Wiener titled the photograph, "Standing Tall." Sandburg spent a year and a half in Hollywood writing for the motion picture The Greatest Story Ever Told. At this point Sandburg was an internationally known figure, lending his expertise to books, movies, television shows, and public events. "He was as complicated and as simple in his eighties as he had been in his twenties, pulled in as many directions, almost as frenetically active... During the last decade of his life, he was a full-time celebrity, and only a part-time writer." (pages 676-677, Niven)
