Mrs. Sandburg often worked in her farm office until late in the night making calculated decisions regarding her goat herd. She meticulously kept track of each goat's family history. How well each goat showed "dairy" characteristics and how closely each were related to each other, determined which goats would be bred and which goats would be paired as mates.
