Hardee Hat [two views and detail]

The U.S. Artillery, The "Jeff Davis Hat" or "Hardee Hat" was originally adopted for use by the United States Army in 1858. However, it was not popular with the troops. This style was primarily worn on dress occasions. The color of the cord indicated the soldier's service branch; red for artillery, blue for infantry, and yellow for cavalry.
