Ed Owens, Wagon Boss

Ed Owens, Wagon Boss

William Henry Jackson
ca. 1866

Ed Owens was the wagon train boss when Jackson served as a bullwhacker. Impressed by Owens' soft-spoken, gentlemanly temperament so uncharacteristic of a frontier wagon master, Jackson described him as "one of the most patient men I have ever known." Jackson made numerous sketches of Owens throughout his life.
