TUPELO, Miss.—On February 10, 2025, the National Park Service will begin rehabilitation work on the Chisha Foka Multi-Use Trail in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Four separate sections of the trail will close as work progresses. The first section to close will be from Old Canton Road to the Reservoir overlook. The closure, which includes the Reservoir Overlook Parking area, will last up to two weeks depending on weather and construction progress.
“The project will consist of full depth milling and placement of a new asphalt surface across four sections of trail, totaling 3.5 miles,” said Facility Manager Mark Holley, “The closures are necessary for the safety of visitors and workers. Ultimately the work will provide a smoother and more enjoyable trail for pedestrians and bicyclists.”
Barricades will be in place and signs posted to mark the closed area. Individuals found in the closed area may be subject to citation. Large trucks and heavy equipment will be working in tight spaces along the trail, making it difficult to see pedestrians.
Once work is completed on the first section of trail it will reopen, and the next section will close. Visitors should anticipate future closures from Old Canton Road to Rice Road, Rice Road to Highway 55, and Old Agency Road to the Southern Terminus of the trail. Construction updates will be posted on www.nps.gov/natr or on Facebook @NatchezTraceParkwayNPS.
