MAMMALS OF ZION-BRYCE AND CEDAR BREAKS
Acknowledgements
This bulletin is intended as a popular account of the recent mammals known from the national park and monument areas of southwestern Utah, and is based upon records, field notes, and specimens at Zion National Park, Utah, and at the offices of the Biological Survey, Washington D. C. This, however, does not imply that scientific work in these areas has been completed. On the contrary, field work has been limited, and published records are few. Hence this booklet consists largely of first hand knowledge gleaned by the writer and the following rangers and naturalists of the National Park Service: A. E. Borell, M. Cope, G. Y. Croft, J. S. Dixon, S. D. Durrant, F. C. Fagergren, D. J. Jolley, L. F. Keller, W. S. Long, H. Russell, A. G. Schiefer, and A. M. Woodbury. Valuable information has been secured from the Biological Survey records of W. H. Osgood, who collected in and around Cedar Breaks in September, 1908. Others who have collected within our areas include A. B. Howell, for the Dickey collection, California Institute of Technology, E. A. Goldman of the Biological Survey, E. R. Hall, and Mrs. A. H. Miller for the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, and L. M. Huey of the Sen Diego Society of Natural History.
Identities of forms listed herein have been determined from specimens in the Zion Museum and from the Bureau of Biological Survey specimens in the United States National Museum at Washington, D.C. Ira N. Gabrielson, Chief of the Bureau, and Joseph Grinnell, Director of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, were most helpful in extending to me the facilities of their respective institutions, especially as regards determination of specimens by E. A. Goldman and A. H. Howell of the Bureau, and S. B. Benson and E. R. Hall of the Museum.
