NPS Photo LITHODENDRON is the open access, peer-reviewed publication of Petrified Forest National Park. Sponsored by the park’s Science and Resource Stewardship Department, the primary purpose of the journal is to publish and disseminate the results of original archaeological, biological, geological, historical and paleontological research from Petrified Forest National Park and the surrounding region – to include northern Arizona and the greater Four Corners area. The journal serves as a publishing platform for seasoned professionals, students, and advocational researchers, whose work contributes significantly to the scientific and historical literature of the area. Lithodendron was conceived by Dr. William G. Parker, longtime paleontologist and head of the Department of Science & Resource Stewardship at Petrified Forest National Park, along with Matthew A. Brown, former fossil preparator at the Park, and now Director of the Texas Vertebrate Paleontology Collections at the Jackson School of Museum and Earth History, The University of Texas at Austin. With Dr. Parker’s guidance, the journal was founded in 2023 and the inaugural volume was issued in 2024. Lithodendron is an open-access publication, which means all of its content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking permission from the publisher or the authors as long as they cite the source.
