Crystal Cave is an excellent example of a marble cavern. There is a moderately steep (but paved) half-mile trail from the parking area to the cave entrance. The trail through the cave is also one half mile. Because of fragile formations, the only way to visit the cave is on a guided tour. Tours are suitable for all ages. If you decide to get a reservation to see the cave, plan on spending about half a day traveling to the cave, walking to the entrance, and taking the 50-minute tour.
Getting There
The Crystal Cave Road is gated and closed at its junction with Generals Highway except when tours are being offered. Vehicles with a cumulative length of over 22 feet (the length of a vehicle plus the length of any trailer) are not allowed on the narrow and curving Crystal Cave Road.
Cave Tours Require Tickets Purchased In Advance
Tours are available from late spring through fall and typically are offered between 9 am and 3 pm. Visit Sequoia Parks Conservancy's Crystal Cave webpage for tour availability, important information about tours, and a link to purchase tickets. Tours are roughly 50 minutes and tickets are available from our parner, the Sequoia Parks Conservancy. Tickets must be purchased in advance, online, at least 36 hoours in advance. Tickets frequently sell out, so it is recommended that you book three weeks in advance of your visit.
Tickets are not available at the cave.
Services
No services are available at Crystal Cave itself. Restrooms and food storage lockers are available at the Crystal Cave Parking lot . Everyone is required to remove all foods and scented items from cars and place them in the food storage boxes.
Accessibility
The trail to Crystal Cave, though paved, is very steep and narrow, and not recommended for visitors using mobility assistive devices. For an American Sign Language (ASL) translation of the Crystal Cave tour, please ask at the information booth at the Crystal Cave trailhead for a tablet with ASL interpretation. For an in-person ASL interpreter, please email the SPC Field Institute at SFI@sequoiaparks.org. Assistive Listening Devices with SM receivers are available at the Crystal Cave Entrance Booth located at the Crystal Cave Trailhead. Neck loops are available for those with T-coil hearing aids.
