Quick Facts

Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

Learn about Yosemite's geologic story while taking in the view of Yosemite Valley, a masterpiece of nature that is ever changing.

For over a century, Yosemite's geologic story has always intrigued, inspired, and challenged people. In 1925, Yosemite Natural History Association built this geology hut as an observatory to educate visitors about Yosemite's geologic past.

A few million years ago, ice once dominated Yosemite's landscape! Repeated glaciations helped carve and sculpt the scenery. Rockfalls, waterfalls, and rivers have continued and will continue to shape and transform Yosemite's dramatic landscape.

While the hut is open year-round, the Glacier Point Road is open from approximately late May through October or November.
