Located in the Administrative area of the North Rim's developed area, the Backcountry Information Center Office is open daily to assist backcountry hikers. Look for signs along State Route 67, just south of the North Kaibab Trailhead, and just beyond the top of the hill.
- The Backcountry Information Office provides information, permits, and trip planning assistance for those looking to explore Grand Canyon on day and overnight hikes from the canyon's northern rim. Day hikes do not require permits, but any overnight trip into the backcountry, whether below the rim or above, require a permit. You can also try for a day-of permit in person here.
- Water is available here, year round, even after the North Rim visitor services have closed for the season.
- ALERT: July 8-12, 2024. Temporary Drinking Water Outage on North Kaibab Trail: including: Supai Tunnel, Manzanita Day Use Area, Cottonwood Campground/Day Use Area, Bright Angel Campground, and Phantom Ranch. HIkers need to be prepared to treat creek water.
