The Swan Quarter ferry crosses 32 miles of the Pamlico Sound, while the Cedar Island ferry crosses 24 miles of water. In the summer, a passenger ferry connects Hatteras Village and Ocracoke Village. Check the NCDOT ferry website for current departure schedules.

A comfort station is located 200 feet beyond the ticket booth on the right side along the loop road. This is a one-story, wooden building with two sets of seven stairs at the left and right, with an additional accessible ramp at the right. Inside are restrooms, information, and refreshments. A few vending machines with cold drinks and snacks are located at the top of the ramp to the right.
