The A.M.E. (African Methodist Episcopal) Church is one of the oldest structures in town, built in 1885 by the settlers of Nicodemus. The Mount Pleasant Baptist Church built this structure using local limestone and worshipped here from 1885-1910. The A.M.E. congregation, having occupied other buildings before, inherited this building from the Mount Pleasant Baptists and worshipped in the church from 1910-1947. Eventually the doors of the church closed due to declining membership and the remaining congregation joined the First Baptist Church.
The A.M.E. church fell into major disrepair after it closed its doors, but eventually received major restoration to the entire structure. As of 2021, the church is open for visitation with various exhibits and artifacts on display.
