18. Second Floor of the Brick House

Heavily damaged by the arson fires in 1979, much of this room has been rebuilt. Some pieces of the original flooring still exist, which is why the sign for a 50 pound limit is hanging on the wall above the bed. 

This space would have been Albert's bedroom with both Sophia and Hannah. The furniture decorating this bedroom are not Gallatin's, but of the same period he would have been here. 

We have no evidence that Sophia's mother ever responded to her letter or that they ever reconciled. Because Sophia died on the property, it is very possible that she died in this bedroom. The Brick House was the only part of the house in 1789.
