Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The heavy fighting at the Battle of Corinth, October 3 & 4, 1862, had crippled the Confederate Army, forcing them to retreat toward Mississippi to rest and refit. The path to safety ran across Davis Bridge on the Hatchie River in Tennessee. Union forces under General Edward O.C. Ord were rushed from Boliver, Tennessee, to block the Confederate escape. The Battle of Davis Bridge would take place on October 5, 1862. The Confederates were able to escape, but only at a high cost in casualties.
