Lichen Trail starts just north of the Katahdin Overlook, just off Katahdin Loop Road. There is space for two vehicles to park at the trailhead.This segment of trail is an out-and-back hike, but also connects at approximately the midpoint of Rocky Pond Road multiuse trail.

Look out for colorful pink earth lichen on the sun exposed surface of the trail as you hike, as well as other forms of lichen growing around in the area. Notice the large granite boulders near the trail as you hike and observe signs of wildlife in the area. Remember to be prepared and bring water to stay hydrated. There is no potable water at the trail.

Difficulty: Easy

Restrooms: The closest vault toilet is at the Katahdin Loop Road Overlook.

Parking: Park alongside the trailhead area and completely off the gravel road. Do not block the road or trailhead.

Trail Etiquette: Leashed pets are allowed on this trail. Carry out all trash and food waste (fruit peels, shells, etc.). Do not feed the wildlife.
