Little Messer Pond is one of the few tranquil ponds deep within Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. It is approximately 32 acres and 4ft deep, creating a seasonally warm pond. There are no trout at this location, but minnows have been observed here. The pond features unique plant life including peat moss and pitcher plants. The ecosystem here makes it a good location for wildlife viewing.

This location offers great views of Traveler Mountain. Hike to view Messer Pond by starting at Haskell Gate.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Restrooms: Vault toilets are available at the North Gate and Oxbow Picnic Area. Follow best practices for remote waste management if needed.

Parking: Parking is available at the Haskell Gate parking area.

Trail Etiquette: Leashed pets are allowed on this trail. Carry out all trash and food waste (fruit peels, shells, etc.). Do not feed the wildlife.
