The landscape here at Malvern Hill remains remarkably similar to how it looked in 1862. The artillery pieces in front of you point toward the direction from which Confederate troops advanced—up a long, gentle incline toward the strong U.S. position. To your left is the Crewe House, which was rebuilt after a postwar fire. And to your right is the West House—not a historic structure itself, but it stands atop part of the original historic foundation.
