Quick Facts
Location:
Boston, MA
Significance:
Olmsted Designed Landscape
Though not commonly considered part of the Emerald Necklace, Marine Park was intended as its final jewel. However, construction was fraught with delays and setbacks, so much so that it was completed well after Olmsted’s death by other firm members. Marine Park was meant to have a grand boulevard connecting it to Roxbury, not only giving residents access to the oceans of South Boston, but completing the Emerald Necklace. While the boulevard was never realized, Marine Park still serves its intended purpose as a refuge from the city.
