Scenic View/Photo Spot

The mill interior is temporarily closed for preservation and rehabilitation work. Visitors can still walk around the outside.

This historic gristmill is located a half-mile north of the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. Built in 1886, it still stands at its original site. It uses a water-powered turbine instead of a water wheel to power all the machinery in the building.

During the summer and early fall, rangers present a variety of programs involving the history and process of milling at this site.
