The viewpoint is almost 1 mile into the Nancy Karl Trail. There is a wayside and viewpoint of the desert and the local communities. 

The trail near the park boundary is almost 2 miles long with a gentle incline. The trailhead is in a residential area near the town of Joshua Tree. There is limited parking at the trailhead. The sand can be deep and soft through parts of the trail. It is one of the few trails that allows pets.
