Curtis and Nina Hannold started a ranch near this location in 1908. Like many early homesteaders in Big Bend country they had to be self-sufficient, resilient, and enterprising. Mr. Hannold supplemented the family income by teaching school at Dugout Wells, seven miles to the south. Stop at this exhibit to learn more about the Hannold family and why Nina chose this location for her final resting place.
