Noncommissioned Officers' Quarter (1884)

NPS

This apartment building was completed in 1884. It was built for the most senior non-commissioned officers. Before this building these men had to sleep in the same barracks as the rest of the enlisted men, but this structure is example of how as time went on Fort Laramie became more of a small town rather than a true military fort. By the late 1880s, these buildings would have groomed with white fences, lamp posts, bird baths, and the fort would have looked more like a nice neighborhood.
