Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Parking - Auto, Trailhead

Lot I provides direct access to the Algonquian Trail, a .2-mile out and back trail, and is a short walk down the Scenic Drive to access the South Valley Trail, a 9.7-mile trail that weaves throughout the park from Oak Ridge Campground to Quantico Creek.

Take a journey back in time as you follow this .2-mile trail through the woods to an area where a small stream flows over a rock outcropping. Imagine the Algonquian-speaking Doeg Indians who once inhabited the Quantico are refreshing themselves in this cool, shaded spot after a day of fishing, hunting and picking berries for their families. To the Doeg Indians, Quantico meant “by the large stream.”

Watch your step for tree stumps and slippery rocks. Check yourself periodically for ticks. Keep your pets on a leash and do not feed wildlife. Do not disturb or remove any plants, animals, or historic features.
