Following their victory in North Africa (May 1943), Allied leaders met in Casablanca to plan their next move in the Mediterranean. The result: Operation Husky—the ambitious invasion of Sicily, launched on July 10, 1943.
Under the command of two legendary generals, George S. Patton (U.S. 7th Army) and Bernard Montgomery (British 8th Army), the Allies executed one of the war’s largest amphibious and airborne assaults. Despite fierce Axis resistance, the campaign ended in Allied victory after six weeks, reshaping the war’s trajectory.
