Stinson Beach and Climate Change

Rising sea level will flood beaches like Stinson Beach, pushing the coast back dozens of meters. Scientists calculate that if global temperatures continue to increase at predicted rates, sea levels could rise 1 meter (3 feet), or more, over the next century. Roads and buildings along the coast will be affected by flooding during high tides and major storm events.

The park is adapting to these future changes by moving the wastewater treatment system further inland and redesigning the parking lots to allow more room for the dunes to move inland. We are also collaborating with neighboring land managers to plan for additional changes to park buildings and utilities.
