Van Buren was a passionate farm manager in the later years of his life. Following Jefferson's example after his presidency he decided to try his hand at being a gentleman farmer. Van Buren's twenty years here though are only a small part of the hundreds of years of agricutural heritage in the area. The farm remains active today, and each year the fields are planted with different crops. As the farm is active we do ask that visitors stay on the park trails.
