Overview

At Twentymile Cascade, the waters of Twentymile Creek slide down a series of slanting sandstone ledges before dropping into a boulder-filled creek bed. Reaching the cascade requires a 1.3-mile (2.1-km) round-trip walk on a wide gravel road.

How to Get There

  • Park in one of the two parking areas near Twentymile Ranger Station on NC Highway 28 three miles east of the junction of US 129 at Deals Gap or 6.2 miles west of Fontana Dam.
  • Follow the gravel road beyond ranger station and past the gate 0.5 mile along Twentymile Trail to the junction of Wolf Ridge Trail. Bear right and continue or another 100 yards to the sign marking Twentymile Cascade.
