Description
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible as it crosses from Texas to Maine. Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site will be at 92% totality (how much of the sun is blocked by the Moon’s shadow). A deep partial eclipse will be visible as this natural phenomenon crosses Gettysburg.
If you’re looking for a place to view this event, park staff will provide free solar glasses on-site to safely view the eclipse at the Gettysburg Visitor Center. During a partial eclipse, it is never safe to look at the sun without solar filter glasses. Solar eclipse-viewing glasses are first come, first serve and will be available until we run out.
The entire “eclipse process” will take place over a three-hour period in Gettysburg, starting around 2:04 pm and ending around 4:34 pm. The darkest point — the eclipse maximum — will occur at 3:20 PM with 92% of the sun covered by the moon. Don't miss it — the next solar eclipse won't be until 2044!
