Description
Racially-motivated laws made a mockery of freedom for Black Delawareans for generations. Although most famously connected with the post-Civil War south, Delaware's own Black Codes date back to 1700. Learn more about these repressive laws through the point of view of real people like Sampson Darling, a free Black barber living during the peak of Delaware's time as a slave state.
This program contains thoroughly-researched content that explores difficult subject matter in a respectful and conscientious fashion, in line with First State Heritage Park's commitment to tell inclusive stories of Delaware's past in a responsible and welcoming manner.
This program is NEW in 2022 and we welcome considered and respectful feedback from our community, whose input makes our work possible.
This program is FREE to the public
